National Drowning Prevention Week runs from July 19th to the 25th and the City of Prince George is taking part.
Manager of Aquatics, Jim Worthington says a special challenge will be taking place during that time.
“We’re offering the swim to survive challenge at both the Aquatic Centre and Four Seasons Pool between the 19th and 25th from 1:30 to 4:00pm and at that time a lifeguard will be teaching P-F-D and life jacket safety.”
Worthington adds drowning has taken too many lives in Canada and BC.
“It’s the third leading cause of death among Canadians under the age of 60, last year in BC there were 63 drowning deaths and this year alone in 2015 in the first half of the year there have been 25 drownings.”
