MINISTER PRAISES RED CRISS MINE

BC’s Minister of Energy and Mines couldn’t be more pleased with the opening of the Red Criss Mine near Dease Lake.

Bill Bennett says more people benefit from the mine than just the 350 employees working there.

“You have to figure that there’s another thousand jobs supporting that mine in terms of small businesses in Prince George, Smithers, Terrace and all the transportation industries that rely on it.”

Bennett adds there is one distinct difference at this mine, compared to Mount Polley.

“At Red Criss you have natural contours of red rock on both sides, with tailings storage facility at one end but of course at Mount Polley you had high man-made walls on all four sides of that facility and you don’t have that at Red Criss.”

The mine is serviced by the Northwest Transmission line which will transport copper and gold to the Port of Stewart and be shipped overseas.

Back in April, Thaltan council members voted to accept a co-management agreement which guarantees training and careers for members and a revenue sharing agreement among other things.
