The ground is broken and construction will soon be underway on the Caribou Crossing commercial development just outside the city.
Cariboo Crossing, located at the intersection of Highway 97 and Boundary Road, is being developed by the Kelowna-based Troika Group.
“We see Prince George as a growing economy, we see that it has lots of opportunity,” said Troika Vice President of Development and Innovation Rich Threlfall.
“We felt we could bring our expertise and our knowledge on development of various types of developments to the community to continue to grow Prince George.”
Threlfall said the development will include a mixture of businesses, including a gas station, drive-thru businesses, and more.
“There’s the potential opportunity down the road in the future phases to have additional commercial services,” he explained.
“It could be offices, it could be stores that are selling commercial goods.”
Troika is also involved in the development of residential developments in College Heights proposed to City Council last month.
Mayor Simon Yu said it’s important to build relationships with developers building both commercial and residential developments.
“They understand the importance of a partnership with local Indigenous groups, together with the people to build a sustainable development, not just coming here to flip the land and make some money and get out of town, they are here to stay,” he said.
“With this kind of partnership, we can do great things, not just around here, but in the College Heights.”
Site development work is scheduled to commence immediately.
Threlfall said the base buildings are expected to be up by the end of the year, with a fully operational site by next summer.
