Update: 1:30pm

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in Prince George.

Environment Canada is reminding residents to stay indoors if lightning starts to strike.

Original Story: 10:15am

Ninety-kilometre-an-hour winds and hail could make their way into Prince George today (Thursday) as the northern capital will likely be under a severe thunderstorm watch yet again.

A high of 22 degrees is being predicted for today (Thursday) with a 60% chance of showers.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Lisa Erven told MyPGNow.com when the thunder roars, go indoors!

“There is actually no safe spot outside during a thunderstorm – so try and seek out a hard-topped vehicle with the windows done up and then also a sturdy building. A sturdy building usually consists of something that has plumbing associated with it.”

Erven mentioned PG was under a severe thunderstorm watch on Wednesday, but other than a few spotty showers, the most extreme activity pretty much missed the northern capital.

“It just so happened that a cell did not roll over your particular area yesterday but they were around. Today, it’s just the ingredients that are lining up (for a thundershower).”

Erven added yesterday (Wednesday) PG saw the third-hottest June 28th on record with a high of 29 degrees.

The record was set during the 2021 Heat Dome where a high of 38 degrees was reached.
