PG’s Nico Myatovic, Cougars Riley Heidt & Koehn Ziemmer hear their name called on 2nd day of NHL Draft

Nico Myatovic of Prince George, a forward with the Seattle Thunderbirds, plus Riley Heidt of the Prince George Cougars, were selected today (Thursday) in the second round of the NHL Draft which was held in Nashville.

Myatovic was the first pick of round two, 33rd overall to the Anaheim Ducks while Heidt was the last pick of the second round, 64th overall to the Minnesota Wild.

Sniper Koehn Ziemmer of the P.G. Cougars was chosen in the third round, 78th overall by the Los Angeles Kings.

Saskatoon Blades defenceman Tanner Molendyk of McBride was selected Wednesday night in the first round, 24th overall by the Nashville Predators.

The wait for Koehn Ziemmer is over. The Cougars’ scoring forward was taken 78th overall (3rd Round) by the Los Angeles Kings.

Ziemmer tallied 89 points in 68 games last season, including 41 goals.

The first Prince George Cougar is off the board at the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville.

Riley Heidt was taken with the last pick of the 2nd Round (63rd overall) by the Minnesota Wild.

PG’s Nico Myatovic had his name called first in the second round, 33rd overall, by the Anaheim Ducks.

Myatovic notched a career-high 30 goals and 30 assists during the regular season for the Seattle Thunderbirds who eventually won the 2023 WHL Championship. The T-Birds fell in the Memorial Cup final to the Quebec Remparts.

Last night (Wednesday), McBride’s Tanner Molendyk was the first player from Northern BC to be picked.

The Saskatoon Blades defenceman was selected 24th overall by the Nashville Predators, the Preds’ second pick in the first round.

Molendyk notched nine goals and 28 assists in 67 games with the Blades this season.

He was the 28th-ranked North American Skater in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings.
