Extreme fire hazard prompts certain logging restrictions

This heat wave we’ve been experiencing has not been good news for logging operations in the area.

Fire Protection Officer Brent Bye says due to extreme hazards, certain operations such as skidding and falling have already been shut down:

“Those are high risk activities so they are totally restricted. There are other activities that they can carry on with, which would be like loading and hauling. So if they have decked wood that’s available for them to load and haul, they can still load and haul.”

Bye says anything that could produce a spark – like the use of a chainsaw – obviously causes the most concern.

He says an extreme hazard like this occurs almost every year, and logging operations have simply learned to work around the restrictions.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
