They are putting the “light” in Northern Lights Estate Winery.
Foreman Farms, which is owned and operated by Northern Lights, will be run entirely off solar power this season.
“Sustainability is an important piece of our business,” explained Northern Lights Owner Doug Bell, “Whenever we can, we’re looking to use renewable resources, prevent damage to the land when we farm, and utilize the byproducts from farming and winemaking.”
The farm is 40 acres large, most of which is dedicated to fruit farming – although the public would better know it for hosting the Sunflower Festival last summer.
“It’s a tall order to power a farm with solar power, but we feel any hiccups along the way will be worth it,” Bell said.
Northern Lights Estate Winery has been a carbon-neutral company since 2018, they said Dr. Sinead Earley from UNBC works with them every year to offset their carbon emissions.
An estimated total of 5,000 people toured the Sunflower Festival last year, the winery said they can all look forward to returning this summer once the sunflowers start to bloom.
