Pride flag flying at City Hall

It’s Pride Week in Prince George.

The week started today with the raising of a Pride flag at city hall.

Organizer Valentine Crawford says this weekend is about pushing the community forward.

“Pride is about having those conversations, having them open. It’s about self expression and visibility. We are a part of this community and that is the way its going to stay.”

Pride Week is in it’s 18th year in PG, Crawford says he has been involved with the last 12.

“From the time that I was a teenager, it was hard then. It’s a lot easier now, but not for everyone; homophobia is still an underpinning in the community.”

The Pride parade and festival will run Saturday, with the Ramada Hotel hosting the annual Glitter Ball on Sunday.
