School District 57 has been forced to make some tough calls when it comes to saving money.
The province has told school districts to submit $1.3 million in administrative savings for this school year and the next.
For Prince George schools, this means a loss of just under $700,000 in surplus savings next year.
“It was a very difficult process because we were already looking at a a structural deficit in the district,” says trustee Brenda Hooker, “It created part of the shortfall we were already trying to address. Â When we started the budget process we were looking at $3.3 million that we had to try and cover.”
The savings include $210,000 in staffing cuts, and $125,000 in service and supplies.
