Cancer Society has warning on sun safety

The Canadian Cancer Society is asking you to be aware of the sun this summer.

There is an expected 72 percent increase in the number of new melanoma cases by 2032.

Health Promotions Coordinator Megan Klitch says melanoma is one of the most common forms of cancer.

“People between the ages of 15-29 and its mostly preventable,“ says Klitch, “skin cancer is on the rise, and there are certainly things people can do to prevent the risk.“

Klitch says you can prevent melanoma by not going in the sun between 11-4 pm when the UV index is high.

She recommends staying in the shade, wearing protective clothing and use sunscreen properly.
