The Prince George Figure Skating Club (PGFSC) is looking for votes from the community to win best submission in the national ‘Skate With Us’ contest after being named a finalist by Skate Canada earlier this week.
The goal of the competition is to showcase different areas of figure skating across the country.
The PGFSC’s submission is under the Club and Skating Schools category.
The criteria reads: “Showcase something special about your club/school. It could be something the club/school does really well, a best-in-class practice, or something that is totally unique to the club/school or something that the club/school are particularly proud of.”
The PGFSC did just that, producing a heartwarming 4-minute video, where they simply asked their skaters what makes their experience skating with the club special.
“We ended up reaching out to the skaters and asking anyone that wanted to take part to submit a paragraph,” said Julia Shaddick, the president of the Prince George Figure Skating Club.
“The kids came back with what makes us special. They talked about friendship, belonging, being accepted, it was really sincere feedback from them.”
As a finalist, the PGFSC is now pitted against two other clubs from Manitoba and Quebec – the winner will be determined by votes.
You can vote here, and you can vote once per day until February 15th.
First prize is $5,000 that would go towards the PGFSC.
