“It was pretty sudden,” PG’s New Year’s Baby came two weeks early

“It was very sudden and quick.”

Those are the words of Chelsea Merkel, who gave birth to Prince George’s New Years’ Baby, Paxton.

Paxton was born at 12:45 a.m. on New Year’s Day at UHNBC.

He’s the first child for Chelsea and dad, Dave.

She said she wasn’t expecting to have Prince George’s first newborn in 2023.

“We found out I had preeclampsia, so it was pretty sudden, and we kind of just went right into it,” she said.

“They needed him out, so we were supposed to be due on January 15th, so we still had a couple more weeks and he came two weeks early.”

Merkel added that she and Paxton are doing well.

Paxton is her first child,

The province’s first baby of 2023 was a baby girl born in Abbotsford at 12:02 a.m..
