A late game defensive zone turnover was the difference maker in the Kopar Memorial arena last night.
The Spruce Kings dropped the home game 3-2 against Interior Division rival Cranbrook Bucks, falling behind the bucks in the standings as a result.
Cranbrook’s Jarrod Smith scored the game winner at 16:19 of the third period on a Jack Kurrie turnover.
Jack Stockfish and John Herrington scored the Spruce Kings’ goals, both tallies tied the game at 1-1 and 2-2.
Prince George was 1/5 on the powerplay and 2/2 killing penalties in the game, and outshot Cranbrook 35-23.
The Spruce Kings record fell to 13-8-1-1 while Cranbrook improves to 14-8-1-0.
The Bucks leapfrogged the Spruce Kings in the standings with the win, one point separates the two, and two points separate the teams between second and fifth place.
They will complete the doubleheader tonight at 7:00 in the Kopar Memorial Arena.
