The mascot from the Canada Winter Games has a new home.
It was announced Sunday that Nanguz the Fox will be representing the YMCA of Northern BC.
Communications Director Mike Davis says Games staff wanted to see his career continue.
“Legacies come in all different forms, whether physical or human,” says Davis, “so we felt that this was a really neat way to have Nanguz and the Spirit of the Games remain in the community.”
YMCA Ceo Amanda Alexander says the Canada Winter Games and the YMCA have a lot in common.
“In terms of believing in your dreams,” says Alexander, “and that Northern spirit, the camaraderie and the sense of belief around activity and how that can impact your body, mind and spirit.”
Alexander says the bookings and sales of plush Nanguzs will be used to fund the YMCA’s grade six program.
This is where children in grade six can get free memberships to the Y.
