Hydro workers ‘rodeo’ up

Prince George is rodeo-in’ up today, Safety Rodeo-in that is.

BC Hydro is holding its annual event that showcases the skills workers use every day.

Senior Manager Steve Fowles says they pick up to four events that are common to their everyday work.Safety_Rodeo

“And we’ve got a cross arm change, we’ve got a pull top rescue, we’ve got a couple other events,” says Fowles, “but what we’re trying to do is just show how important safety is our organization and our workers.”

Apprentice Power Line Technician Adam Peters says the events are based on the quality of the work.

“You lose marks for safety infractions, so any safety violations,” says Peters, “so its just proper fall rest, proper climbing.”

850 participants are competing in the Safety Rodeo, with winners heading to Kansas City for the International Lineman’s rodeo.
