Northern Health is wanting to turn to a Private Clinic to address long wait times.
The private surgery center in Prince George has been considered as one option, and Chief operating officer Michael MacMillan says the use of private facilities has been done elsewhere:
“It’s new for Northern Health because we haven’t taken advantage of that opportunity previously, But it’s consistent with practices that have happened elsewhere in the Province. So other health authorities have absolutely worked with private surgery centers for a range of services”
MacMillan says this is more about their lack of physical capacity issues in terms of the number of operating theaters in PG at the moment, and he believes this will obviously create more operating time, and will shorten waiting lists substantially.
Northern Health should be finalizing an agreement with the clinic shortly.
