Students from across the world will continue to arrive in Prince George for the start of the fall semester on Tuesday (September 6), and both campuses are excited to (mostly) have the pandemic in the rearview mirror.
Both campuses will have orientation events on Tuesday, giving new and returning students a chance to settle in with food, campus tours, a chance to meet students and classmates, and some more festivities before studies kick off.
A representative from UNBC told My PG Now that first-year enrollment is up 10% over last year’s late pandemic-related dip, but that they are also up from five years ago, expecting more than 3000 students in 2022-23.
The VP of Student Affairs Shelley Carter-Rose says the college is also up, domestically.
“Our international numbers are still lagging a bit,” she said. “That is not because of demand or applications, that is about visa processing. Students are getting caught up in that lag of being approved.”
She also said that international students have been slowly but steadily arriving in Prince George and that they will continue to do so as that backlog is processed.
Both schools say that proof of vaccination will not be required for students, but that being immunized against COVID-19 is highly recommended.
Elementary schools will also return on Tuesday, and school zones will be active from 8 am-5 pm.
