Prince George breweries and wineries could see more of their products flying off the shelves if the BCGEU strike drags deep into September.
Last week, four liquor distribution centres hit the picket lines putting a huge dent when it comes to the supply of imported wines, seltzers, and hard liquor.
Northern Lights Estate Winery Owner, Doug Bell says the labour unrest will likely open up local operators to a whole new swath of customers.
“From a local producer standpoint, I do think that anytime we can shed light on the products we are making here in the Province of British Columbia than that is a win for the people in the province.”
“We think that more local product is going to be sold in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully, people find things that they really believe in and that becomes a product that they buy more frequently in the future.”
“It’s a tough go for the strike but we are certainly excited to see more local products being purchased,” added Bell.
On Friday, residents across the province were confined to buying just three of the same liquor product at government-run retailers with the exception of beer.
Today, the BC General Employees announced they have accepted an offer to return to the bargaining table with the province.
