Prince George’s public transit system has taken a step into the future.
BC Transit has installed the NextRide program into Prince George’s busses.
NextRide modernizes public transit, allowing customers to see real-time bus locations and view predicted arrival times from their phones.
There are now also automated stop announcements that play inside and outside the bus, increasing comfort, convenience, and accessibility.
“It is a really exciting program that we are excited to implement” Lindsay Taylor, BC Transit’s Northern Manager of Government Relations says. “I think it will be really great for people to return to using transit again since the covid pandemic, and have that confidence in the system.”
The system has been rolled out in other northern communities: Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, and Prince Rupert so far.
Some southern communities like Kamloops have had NextRide in their public transit systems since 2018.
