Wheels of Hope hope for new wheels

A local short staffed Canadian Cancer Society program is in search of summer volunteers while facing down fears of being unable to properly operate.

The Wheels of Hope program transports cancer patients to and from appointments if they do not have the means to do so themselves.

Mark Kahan, a volunteer recruiter for the program, says around 150 people in Prince George need and use this service a month.

Kahan says the summer months are especially hard for volunteer retention with vacations and other activities getting in the way, but the need for volunteers is dire.

“We could use 10 more volunteers, that is the bare minimum to keep things going.”

He also added that driving for the program is the most rewarding work he has ever done.
