A report is being developed for the second quarter of next year on how the City of Prince George can take next steps towards reconciliation.
Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives Chris Bone submitted a report to council in last night’s (Monday) meeting reviewing the commitments of the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities, and wanting the green light to develop the next steps.
“Council’s 2022-24 Strategic Plan includes a City Government and Infrastructure goal to act on calls to action established by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada through the continued building of relations with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and urban Indigenous organizations.”
“As a result of that being a priority in Council’s strategic plan, administration is recommending the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan to advance this priority as the concrete next step to ensure the City continues to honour its commitments as a member of the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities,” added Bone.
Councillor Susan Scott noted that some councillors were missing from this meeting (Councillors Murry Krause, Brian Skakun, Cori Ramsay, Garth Frizzell), and that she was supportive of this upcoming report.
“I know that Councillor Krause and Councillor Frizzell would love to weigh in on this whole issue, and will continue to have these conversations and work towards this. I am delighted to see this move forward, and we’ll weigh in, and roll up my sleeves on whatever you need Miss Bone.”
