A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being performed at Northern Lights Estates Winery’s Amphitheatre.
Director Melissa Glover said that this version of the Shakespearian play will be a bit different though, as it’ll be set in the 1950’s in Athens, Georgia.
“So it’s a very lighthearted show, although there are some dark overtones in it. There’s betrayal, but it’s nicely balanced with magic, and comedy, and there’s sort of some darker aspects of love.”
The play is running from today (Thursday) until Sunday (June 12th), and runs for about 90 minutes.
Chairs will be set up outside, but you’ll only have the afternoon or evening sky above you during the performance.
“I mean that’s how theatre used to be done in Greek and Roman times, and then the globe didn’t have an actual roof. So we’re kind of doing a hail back to classical theatre,” added Glover.
“It’s just a beautiful landscape we have here in Prince George that we don’t get to play with as much as actors much. So to get to be able to have that opportunity is really exciting.”
