United Way recognizes businesses for campaign contributions

The United Way of Northern BC is recognizing businesses for their contributions during their campaigning year.

“These are awards for what we call our campaign year from 2020-2021 (July to June), it takes us a little time to pull all the numbers together,” said Trista Spencer, Executive Director of United Way of Northern BC.

“These are organizations and people who are truly committed to their community, and they have demonstrated through the contributions that they or their staff have made.”

The United Way of Northern BC gives five awards:

Top Workplace Campaign – Canfor

“This year, we’re excited to say that our top workplace campaign was Canfor, Spencer said.

“What that is, is a recognition of the organization that has the greatest contribution from their employees.”

Top Corporate Partner – Canfor

“We have a Top Corporate that we celebrate as well, where those corporations make a one-time donation that is independent of that workplace campaign,” Spencer said.

“This year we were thrilled to be able to celebrate Canfor as well in that position because of their contribution as an organization outside of all of the employee contributions.”

Top In-Kind Supporter – Vista Radio

“One of the things we’re really excited about is this has been a growing partnership,” Spencer said.

“It’s through partnerships like this that we do raise more funding and we raise more awareness, those are those truly layered opportunities for us to get information out about what we do, where we help, and how we do it.”

“Their contribution came through the Tree of Lights campaign that we did, and they enabled us to do a massive amount in the community.”

Top Event Sponsor – Strait

“[We’re] excited to be able to honour them for [Tree of Lights] that they enabled in the Fort St. John area,” Spencer said.

“That awareness and that ability to get the word out about the campaign and as a result, what the community needed through a sponsorship like that was truly appreciated.”

“All of these awards really bring together what we see as a massive commitment to philanthropic efforts,” Spencer concluded.

“I think we all know this takes a great amount of investment, whether that’s financial or time or passion, it makes a huge difference, and we want to make sure to honour all of the people and organizations that come forward year over year and help us with things like this.”
