Fraser Lake residents affected by the Endako Mine closure are receiving some government support.
MLA John Rustad says $150,000 has been awarded to the College of New Caledonia in order to support training efforts:
“What we are trying to do here is try to find as much support as we can for those workers. To be able to help them with training, and help with opportunities so that they can find employment and hopefully be able to keep their families in the community and ride through this period of time with the mine not operating, to a point where the mine starts to operate again”
The government is looking to mitigate the impacts of this closure, and are wanting to support and retrain these workers at the CNC`s Fraser Lake Adult Learning center.
Rustad says they want to complement the skills the workers already have, and believes this is an important adaptation that is necessary in an ever changing workforce and landscape.
