PGSS fills the net for Hometown Hockey

As Roger’s Hometown Hockey converges on Prince George this weekend, there was some off-ice competition in School District 57.

Prince George area schools competed in Hometown Hockey’s ‘Fill The Net Challenge, a food drive to support local charities.

Prince George Secondary School (PGSS) came out on top in the challenge.

As the winners, PGSS got to host an assembly in Vanier Hall, hosted by Hometown Hockey’s Master of Ceremonies Nic Bayley.

“Just to be able to come together as a school and have a big event come, because we haven’t had many events in the last couple of years,” said PGSS Vice Principal, L’donna Lynds.

“It just makes me so happy that we could do this and then the students get to have this afternoon.”

The event also featured a panel of local sports figures who have excelled in sports, and translated sports into other facets of their lives.

The panel included:

  • Kyle Anderson, Spruce Kings business operations manager and chief umpire for the PG Youth Baseball Association
  • Pat Bonnett, two-time Grey Cup winner with the Montreal Alouettes and PGSS football coach
  • Justin Fillion, former Spruce King, and current PGSS Indigenous Education Teacher
  • RJay Berra, Former Spruce King and professional hockey player, and current PGSS Teacher.
