Road work ahead in Prince George

Depending on if the Northern Capital sees a 3rd or 4th winter before the warm weather fully sets in, Prince George residents could see road work go into full swing in the coming months.

City of Prince George spokesperson Mike Kellett said the weather has a lot to do with what can get accomplished, noting that street sweeping is already underway.

“If we have a lot of rain, that will readily impact the deadlines for when we can finish it up. Typically what we see with street sweeping is that we go around to early to mid June for the entire city to be swept.”

Temporary patchwork has been occurring for some of the potholes in PG, but Kellett adds that a more permanent solution won’t be around until sometime next month.

“We are largely dependent on using hot mix asphalt for permanent patches. When we have to use cold mix asphalt it’s basically pretty temporary, and you’ll see it get kicked out pretty quickly.”

Kellett noted that the asphalt plant normally tends to open in May, but said that could range as well.

Once we hit June, Kellett said that if all goes as planned, line painting for roads will get underway.
