The cycling season is well underway and those driving two and four wheel vehicles need to be careful.
Riding a bicycle is the leading cause of sport related injuries, with Northern B-C having higher cycling injury rates.
Northern Health’s Injury Prevention Coordinator Shellie O’Brien says cyclists need to protect their head.
“A properly fitted or correctly worn bike helmet can make a dramatic difference, cutting the risk of serious head injury up to 85%,” says O’Brien, “when fitting a helmet use the 2 V One rule: Two fingers distance from the helmet to the brow, a v-shape around both ears, and one finger between the chin and strap.”
O’Brien also says to make sure your bike is working properly so you don’t crash.
Statistics show the most at risk age group for a bike injury is 10-19.
