Lakeland Mills Coroner’s Inquest makes 33 recommendations

A jury of five has deemed the 2012 explosion at Lakeland Mill’s was accidental.

This, along with 33 recommendations, were made Thursday as the coroner’s inquest into the blast concluded.

The jury made numerous recommendations to many levels including the United Steelworkers Union, the BC Government and WorkSafe BC.

Some include that the RCMP should develop policy, guidelines and training for the investigation of
criminal negligence in the workplace.

To the Minister of Justice, he/she should ensure that the BC Fire Code and all other provincially mandated
codes are freely available in the same manner as provincial Statutes
and Regulations.

The 2012 explosion resulted in the death of Glenn Roche and Allan Little.
