New PG Destination Park heading towards next steps

A proposed Destination Park in Prince George is taking shape.

The project was announced on February 10th by the Prince George Community Foundation and the Prince George Downton Rotary, as a part of the Cougars Mega 50/50 jackpot.

According to PGCF Director of Development, Mindy Stroet, the park is being taken to Prince George City Council on Monday, to provide them with a public consultation.

“We are continuing to work with city administration and our planning team on the design of it,” Stroet said.

The park received $93,650, , in funding from the Cougars Mega 50/50 jackpot, minus the fees associated with the draw.

The project has an estimated budget of $2,845,000.

Rotary Club President, Rod Holmes, had previously in February that the estimated price tag for the park would be between $1.5 million to $2 million, and most of the funding for the project would come from donations by local businesses.

The proposed project would include:

  • Pump Track
  • Junior Adventure Park for ages 18 months to 5 years
  • Teen Adventure Park with Tower for ages 5 to 12 years
  • Senior-Friendly Outdoor Fitness Station
  • Spray Park
  • Inclusive Jumpstart Playground

In terms of where the park will go, Stroet says the PGCF and their partners are keeping that a mystery as they are still working through the details.
