People gathered at Prince George’s City Hall today (Sunday) to show their support for Ukraine.
Over 200 people came to the event, some waving Canadian and Ukrainian flags, others holding signs condemning Russian President Putin, and some wearing the Ukrainian flag colours of blue and yellow.
Pastor Andrii Chornenkyii led the rally, noting that lives are being lost.
“Even in this moment lives are taken, not just lives of soldiers, but average people, citizens, innocent citizens, children, elders, people are hiding in the bomb shelters because of the Russian invasion.”
People started singing the Ukrainian national anthem, a moment of silence was held, and drumming happened after some speeches
Chornenkyii thanked the residents of Prince George for coming out, and people came up and spoke about why they were there in support.
Mayor Lyn Hall also spoke at the rally, calling the Russian invasion an atrocity, and also made an announcement.
“We are going to raise the Ukrainian flag Tuesday morning at 10:30am here at City Hall.”
He added this will be talked about during tomorrow’s City Council meeting as well.
