City Council approves free transit during bike to work week

Prince George’s cyclists have another reason to take their bikes to work in the coming weeks.

After a unanimous vote at Monday nights council meeting, those who sign up for Bike to Work week on May 25th through the 31st will be able to ride local buses free of charge.

Avid cyclist, and City Councillor Jillian Merrick spoke about a certain statistic:

“So you’d think that the more Cyclists we have the more crashes we have, but its the opposite in that the more cyclists we have the fewer there are, just because people become aware of cyclists and take more caution when they are driving to look for them when they see them on a regular basis”

Merrick says this was just an added incentive for those who maybe wouldn’t have considered cycling to work due to the distance or elevation of certain locations.

She also says it’s a great option for those looking for a cheaper, more active lifestyle, or those wanting to be more environmentally conscious during the beautiful summer months.

To sign up individually, or as a workplace or school team just head to biketowork.ca/PrinceGeorge
