The City of Prince George’s Communications Manager Julie Rogers gave a Year in Review at Monday’s City Council Meeting, highlighting some of the work they hope to get accomplished this year.
Rodgers said that their team is working to utilize social media better, and find ways to use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Youtube to better communicate certain messages.
The City’s Facebook page has around 16,000 followers, and stats show they’ve had over 200,000 engagements.
That towers over some of the other social media platforms, where the City has over 5,000 Instagram followers, and over 16,000 engagements.
Rodgers also noted that they will be doing some work on the City’s website.
“The website is hosted on a platform, and that platform is no longer going to be supported, so we’re going to have to move it over to something else.”
She added that a little bit of work will be done to make the site more accessible, and it was recommended that the Advisory Committee on Accessibility be brought in to test the website when it’s ready to go.
Rodgers also noted they are looking at a fact checking portion to the website to make sure their messages get across properly.
“When we hear things being talked about on social media, or even in the media that’s just not correct, we can correct the misinformation and the disinformation on a page on our website.”
Rodgers said that she doesn’t anticipate any of these improvements to cost more than for what is already budgeted.
She added that she hopes that this will push more projects in the future into the spotlight, like the pool grand opening, the World Women’s Curling promotions, Storm water education, and the new daycare.
