BC Health officials have changed their guidelines for when people should get a COVID-19 test.
The Province said a test is not recommended if you are showing no symptoms, regardless of whether you were in close contact with someone who tested positive.
You also shouldn’t get tested if you are fully vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine, but you’re showing mild symptoms and you can manage your illness at home.
Health officials said a test is only recommended if you have symptoms, and you’re at a high risk of severe illness, or you identify with a high risk setting (healthcare workers, first responders, shared living spaces, or you live in a remote or rural community).
Northern Health is providing rapid COVID-19 tests at their testing centres for people experiencing symptoms, and according to risk factors, and people can fill out a booking form.
If you feel sick and are unsure about your symptoms, you’re encouraged to call 8-1-1.
If you’re still unsure, there’s a COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool available as well.
