UPDATE 4:15 pm: (Monday, Jan 3)
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Prince George
UPDATE 11:17 am:
What was expected to be 5cm of snow for Prince George is now looking closer to 10cm, as a snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada.
The notice stated that the snow should taper off later today (Monday) with a possibility of flurries.
Tomorrow still has a 30% chance of flurries, and Wednesday shows only a mix of sun and cloud, before the potential 20cm of snow expected by Thursday.
8:22 am:
Snow is expected today (Monday) across Northern BC, with a possible 5cm, but Meteorologist Jonathan Bau said we should have a short break before another snowfall is expected.
He said the Prince George and Vanderhoof area should expect a mix of sun and cloud tomorrow with a very slight chance of flurries.
“For temperatures we’re looking at temperatures remaining well below seasonal for this time of year, kind of bottoming out at the low minus 20s for tonight, and not really warming up too much for tomorrow, looking at highs of about -24.”
Bau said the seasonal high for the Prince George area is -7, with the seasonal low at -16.
He noted that Thursday will see a system come in that will cover most of Northern BC and into the Cariboo.
“So what it looks like is that coming in early Thursday morning we’ll see a front come through the Central Interior that will bring in quite a bit of snow, especially with the colder temperatures that are still in place.”
“Preliminary numbers suggest perhaps 15-20cm of fluffy snow for the Thursday time period into maybe early Friday morning,” said Bau.
He said that snowfall will reach from Smithers to Vanderhoof, to Prince George, and into the Interior to Williams Lake and Quesnel.
Prince George is still trying to recover from the heavy snowfall we already had, with the City stating that 622 dump trucks were filled Sunday night.
