A fresh blanket of snow is being predicted in the Prince George area by Environment Canada.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued where up to 20 centimetres of snow could fall between Friday night and most of Saturday.
The Bulkley Valley and Lakes District including Smithers and Burns Lake could see upwards of 30 cm.
Meteorologist, Trevor Smith explained to MyPGNow.com what we can expect.
“We’ve got a nice, fairly cool arctic airmass over the region right now, and then we are going to see a Pacific storm moving up and over that cold air starting Friday night. We will see the snow starting then and probably continuing right through Saturday night and Sunday morning.”
He adds snow accumulations could vary depending on where you live.
“In terms of amounts, we are looking at upwards of 20 centimetres for the Prince George area but over the Bulkley Valley and the Lakes including communities like Smithers and Burns Lake, they could see upwards of 30 centimetres.”
“Be prepared for some difficult travel as all of that snow could make travelling difficult. Use common sense and have a winter emergency kit with you.”
Smith adds a cold front is expected closer to Christmas with overnight lows possibly dipping into the minus ’30s.
“After the snow goes through on Sunday morning, we are looking at a sunny to the partly sunny mix as we get into the early part of the Christmas week. Then as we get closer to Chritsmas, it looks like we are going to see another shot of arctic air. As we get into Wednesday, Thursday, Friday we expect temperatures well below normal with overnight lows into the minus 30’s as we get towards Christmas.”
