The University of Northern BC is expanding their Master of Business Administration (MBA) program into Northwestern Alberta.
A new MBA cohort will be starting in Grande Prairie, at the Grande Prairie Regional College. Dr. Sungchul Choi, Chair of the School of Business at UNBC, says Grande Prairie was chosen because of the level of interest, the size and location of the region, and the demographics.
“When we had an information session before COVID-19, over 50 people participated in the session, and we have received continued interest since then,” Choi explained.
“The city also serves a larger trading area of approximately 70,000 people spanning Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia.”
The program can be completed in 21 months, but Choi said the full-time class load is being done a little bit differently.
“Our MBA is for working professionals, most of our MBA students are working full-time in various sectors, so the focus of the MBA is on the application of the learning,” Choi explains.
“The class is offered one weekend per month, which allows the student to balance their personal and professional life, while earning their degree in 21 months.”
The Grande Prairie cohort is the third MBA cohort site for UNBC. The UNBC MBA program was launched in 2004, and a cohort was added in Vancouver in 2013.
