Canada’s postal workers are working as hard as they can to get the presents under the tree from far away this year.
Rick Harris, President of Local 812, Canadian Union Postal Workers, says people should be getting their parcels and mail out as soon as possible if they want it delivered for Christmas.
“It really does depend on which direction they’re going of course,” Harris added.
“All of the Christmas deliveries are relatively normal with the normal amount of backups going west and east and north, but south, with the highway closures, when they close them, if they look like they’re getting a storm and stuff like that, obviously we’ll hold up the mail.”
Harris also added with road closures down South, some schedules are up in the air.
“I’m not sure of the trucking schedules or where they’re trucking them, we get them when we get them. I can tell you that the Prince George mail processing plant is running 24/7 with three different shifts, it’s doing what it can do, the people are doing what they can do.”
Harris says he and the other Local 812 workers would appreciate as much patience as possible during this time of year.
“We’re doing our best, we’re working as many hours as we comfortably can or physically can, and we’re really trying to do the job of getting the parcels and the Christmas presents to people this year, so patience is something I would ask for if possible.”
