Prince George Public Library workers ratified their first collective agreement in a vote that ended November 9th.
CUPE 4951-04 Unit Chair Darcie Smith said this contract should improve communication with the employer, as well as create more job security for the workers.
“This is a huge step that will hopefully improve our relationship with management because they can see that we do respect their policies, and this collective agreement ensures that the terms will be fairly applied,” said Smith.
A release was issued and stated that this new agreement provides increased wages and benefits, as well as locks in protective policies and improves the language.
“It was really excellent that the bargaining committee was able to achieve a solid first contract with good increases,” said CUPE 4951 President Lily Bachand.
The 50 workers at the Prince George Public Library joined CUPE 4951 in April.
