Local lingerie company supports women in need with bra donations

Modern Match Lingerie, a local Prince George company, is working with United Way to donate gently used bras to women who are in need.

Shauna Allan, Founder, and CEO for Modern Match said some of her shipments came in useable, but slightly off from their store standard, and she was looking for a way to still use that stock.

Allan met with the Phoenix Transition Society and said that spurred on this movement.

“We met with them, we went to their office and learned the devastating news of the impact of COVID on women’s shelters. And that was domestic violence was at an all-time high, mental health was at an all-time low. And these women’s shelters were over capacitated and the volunteers were working incredible hours.”

Allan said that clothing and bras were an often overlooked need at a women’s shelter.

“Generally when we think of donating to causes we think of non-perishable food items, we think of winter jackets in the colder months, but when a woman is fleeing a life of abuse chances are she only has the clothes on her back, and all resources go to food and shelter for her.”

She added that the initial reaction from the Prince George community has been wonderful and that their partnership with United Way allows donations to go to a range of communities that need it.

“We knew all women have a drawer full of bras that they’re not wearing, whether they don’t fit, or it just doesn’t suit them anymore, and so that they too could make a donation in the time of need.”

Anyone looking to donate can do so at the Modern Match office at 3981 18th Ave. in Prince George.
