UPDATE: 2-4 cm of snow in PG Sunday, and another few cm Monday

UPDATE 1:17 PM Sunday:

Prince George received some snowfall this morning (Sunday), and Environment Canada said we can expect some more this week.

“It was quite a mix of wet snow and rain, and a little bit of freezing rain at times, so we ended up with two to four centimetres,” said Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron.

Bergeron said there’s a storm looming on the coast of BC that’s affecting much of the province, and added that Prince George and Vanderhoof can expect another few cm tomorrow (Monday) morning.

The Environment Canada website forecasts more snow later in the week on Thursday as well.

Reports say as many as ten people are trapped in their vehicles after heavy rain touched off a large landslide just east of Vancouver.

The province’s Heavy Rescue task force has been deployed to search for the motorists on Highway Seven near Agassiz.

Dozens of other vehicles are now sitting on the highway, isolated by mudslides on either side of them.

Several other highways have been closed by landslides, including the Trans-Canada.

The heavy rain has touched off evacuation orders in several Lower Mainland communities, and flood warnings are out for the lower Fraser River.

8:16 AM:

The snowfall this morning (Sunday) left the roads pretty slick, and has DriveBC warning about road conditions.

Environment Canada shows a mix of rain and snow for the morning, with a chance of flurries tonight.

Alyssa Charbonneau, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, said this is par for the course.

“Normal for this time of year is like a high of around zero, and a low of minus seven. Today is still going to be a little bit warmer than that, but ya, it’s definitely looking like a shift into more winter-like weather.”

She added that today could see some high winds as well.

“We are expecting the snow to continue for the next few hours here, but then we’re looking at it to taper off, and maybe become a mix with rain, and then we’re looking at some gusty winds for this afternoon.”
