Popular program for young girls returns for a 5th year

The RCMP Victim services and Community Policing units are gearing up for their fifth annual Girls’ Run for Fun program.

The free program is for girls who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in organized sports.

Linda Parker is a Community Policing Coordinator and says the program is a means of positive encouragement:

“Girls typically between the ages of 10 to 15 drop out of activities, and we feel that it’s really important to keep them involved and encourage healthy lifestyle choices”

The event takes place from May 5th to June the 18th on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Parker says over 50 girls participated last year, and they are expecting several more this year, with a 5k race and picnic set to end the program on June the 20th.

Registration packages are available at Community Policing at the RCMP Detachment, or you can email Linda Parker at [email protected]
