Multiple car accidents in PG caused by last week’s morning fog

In just under two hours, the Prince George RCMP were called to five motor vehicle incidents where foggy conditions were a lead factor on Wednesday (October 20th).

No one sustained any serious injuries in these incidents, according to PG RCMP Corporal Jennifer Cooper.

We want to remind drivers it is especially important to remember to slow down and give yourself extra time to get to your destination, especially if you are driving outside of our quickly shrinking daylight hours. Pedestrians and cyclists need to remember to increase their visibility by wearing reflective clothing and carrying flashlights or glow sticks when they are using the shoulder or side of a road for travel, stated Cooper.

ICBC and the Winter Driving Safety Alliance have issued some reminders for road users at this time of year:

• Casualty crashes increase fourfold during this time of year in Northern B.C.
• The weather can change rapidly and unpredictably.
• Daytime running lights are dimmer than headlights.
• Taillights do not turn on with your daytime running lights.
• Taillights are an important part of being seen from behind, especially in winter when days are shorter and rain, fog, and grey days are common.
• The visual cue of the interior dash lights does not always mean your headlights and tail lights are on.
• Make sure you have properly rated tires if you are traveling the highways.
