So far over $47,000 has been raised by the 6th annual Climb for Cancer event that took place at the cutbanks this weekend.
Donations are still rolling in so it is possible that the $50,000 fundraising goal ser for this year will be met or exceeded.
The top fundraising team was The Unicorns, who drummed up over $6,000 for the Kordyban Lodge.
An estimated 500 people attended events over the weekend, including the community concert at the Northern Lights Estate Winery on Saturday and the climb at the cutbanks on Sunday, with about 35 people stepping up to volunteer.
Volunteers were made up of planning committee members, including one who traveled from Kamloops for the event, Kordyban Lodge staff, and the UNBC Timberwolves Athletic Society.
“We are thrilled with the amount raised and the incredible support from the community both in participating in the event and raising money for the Kordyban Lodge and providing support to ensure both events ran smoothly,” says Doug Bell, Planning Committee Chair. “I want to give a big thank you to planning committee members, all of the participants and volunteers, our sponsors, including title sponsor of four years Carrier Lumber, and the musicians, food truck operators, and vendors who made the community event possible.”
Over the past six years, the event has raised over $250,000 for the Kordyban Lodge, while the record amount of funding was raised in 2019 as $65,000 was raised that year.
All of these funds go toward annual costs associated with operating the Kordyban Lodge, a non-profit organization that provides an affordable and safe home-away-from-home for cancer patients from the region receiving treatment at the BC Cancer Centre for the North and their families.
Donations can still be made on the Climb for Cancer website.
