Barkerville Historic Town & Park has made the difficult decision to end its 2021 interpretive season a week earlier than planned.
That means there will be no living history programs, restaurants, or shopping experiences available to the visiting public, while Barkerville staff attempts to limit physical interactions between people onsite.
The Visitors’ Reception Centre will be closed, but the front gates will remain open for anyone that wishes to peruse Barkerville’s exhibits at their own pace, free of charge.
“Please know that this is the best and safest preventative measure we can take for our staff, merchants, and the public,” said Kate Cox, Barkerville’s Chief Executive Officer.
“We have called all of the people who have lodgings booked with us to let them know and, so far, have received positive responses from guests who have thanked us for keeping them safe.”
“Some of them will still be coming to enjoy socially distanced outdoor adventures,” she added.
There has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in the surrounding communities.
