Tax tips as deadline draws close

Tax season is upon us and the Canada Revenue Agency is reminding you that there are a variety of tax credits you can access.

Senior Individual Enquiries Agent Ratna Booluck says one of which is the Family Tax Credit.

“Available to eligible couples, with children under the age of 18,” says Booluck, “and its a maximum of $2000, and that’s effective in 2014.”

Booluck says families can also get $160 a month for children under the age of six through the Universal Child Care Benefit.

The date to file your taxes is April 30th.

She says penalties only apply if you owe taxes to the government.
