PG’s Jared Young earns Triple-A call-up to Iowa Cubs

Jared Young of Prince George is one step away from the Major Leagues.

The 26-year-old is now in AAA with the Iowa Cubs, the top minor-league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Young was with the Tennessee Smokies prior to the call, batting .326 with four home runs and 22 RBI’s.

He told MyPGNow.com it was a pretty quick turnaround.

“We just got off the bus back from Montgomery on Sunday night and it was about two or 2:30 in the morning and when we got off the bus the manager pulled me into his office and said that I was going up. He told me to get my stuff in order, pack and leave. It was a little bit stressful but awesome to hear the news.”

After moving up another rung on the development ladder, Young stated he’s right on target to achieve his lifelong dream.

“It’s where I expect to be, it’s where I want to be and I am hoping to contribute and help this team win. It doesn’t feel weird at all and it’s where I want to be in my career.”

“You always want to play your best and show that you can help at the next level. It’s nice that they recognize that and it’s time to keep going.”

The MLB Cubs were among the biggest sellers at the trade deadline dealing stars like Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Craig Kimbrel, and Kris Bryant – potentially opening the door for Young to earn a late-season call up with the big club.

However, that is the furthest from his mind right now.

“It’s still very difficult to get there and it does not change your mindset on how you need to play down here. You got to take care of business down here first, that is the only thing on my mind.”

“It would be incredible but that is out of my hands and you just stay where you are and play to the best of your abilities. At the end of the day, all I can do is play and that is my job.”

Iowa kicks off a six-game series on the road tonight (Tuesday) against the Omaha Storm, the AAA farm team of the Kansas City Royals.
