Walk this way! New crosswalk coming to Tyner Boulevard and Baker Road

City crews have started work on the new crosswalk being installed on Tyner Boulevard at the intersection of Baker Road and Gannett Road.

The project will feature a rectangular rapid flashing beacon design, allowing pedestrians to push a button and activate a flashing light to alert motorists of their presence.

It was deemed a high priority in the City’s Pedestrian Crossing Strategy and is scheduled to be completed by July.

The Strategy was received by City Council last year, and provides a prioritization plan to implement pedestrian crossings as prescribed by the updated Pedestrian Crossing Control Guide by the Transportation Association of Canada.

Out of the 202 City crosswalks evaluated as part of the Strategy, 43 crossings were recommended for upgrade or installation, with 26 of these being existing crosswalks, and 17 the addition of new crosswalks.

The City is asking motorists to be mindful of road workers in the area and to drive cautiously while work is being done.
