A new program with the BC SPCA aims to teach kids about animals through empathy and critical thinking.
‘Humane education’ has recently moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers say it allows the program to be more widely accessible than before, due to a previous lack of staffing in Northern BC.
“We want kids to realize animals have feeling just like them, they can see the similarities and differences they have,” said Paula Newman, Humane Education.
The program will also look at animal welfare, and encourage kids to think about how they interact with pets.
Each session will serve between 15 to 20 kids per session, says Newman, adding the program targets kids 8 to 11.
