Carrier Sekani Family Services awarded prestigious award for reconciliation efforts

Carrier Sekani Family Services is one of the recipients of the 2021 British Columbia Reconciliation Award.

CSFS received the award in recognition of their Nowh Guna “Our Way” Foot in Both Worlds Carrier Agility Training program.

Every year the province awards the Reconciliation award to those who have demonstrated commitment to furthering reconciliation efforts with Indigenous people in BC.

“I am very happy to accept this award from the Lieutenant Governor of BC and BC Achievement, it is a wonderful recognition of our efforts in sharing our values and histories,” said Chief Corrina Leween, President of the Board of CSFS.

The program has been running for five years, offering training to organizations, businesses and agencies across the province.

It teaches participants basic information on Carrier culture and promotes cultural awareness that supports Indigenous communities.

“We see also see this award as an acknowledgment of the hard work and commitment from people who work at CSFS with diverse backgrounds and their contributions toward reconciling with
past injustices” added Leween.

CSFS is one of the nine recipients this year, joining world-renowned environmentalist, Dr.David Suzuki.
