Classes over 30 students remains low in SD57

Very few classes in School District 57 have more than 30 students.

That was one of the findings in the Superintendent’s report on Class Size and Composition for this year’s first semester.

Brian Pepper says there are only 15 classes that exceed 30 students, all at the secondary level.

“We meet the requirements of the act for kindergarten through to grade three,” says Pepper, “at the four to grade seven level although we are allowed to exceed 30 at the grade four to seven level it has been our practise not to exceed 30 students at all or never.”

Pepper says the report also shows that at the elementary level there are no classes that have over 30 students with over three independent education program students.

But in the secondary level, that number is 5.
